INSURGENT Trailer Released by Lionsgate

Oh man. Lionsgate Entertainment released the official Insurgent trailer today, and I cannot wait 'til this one hits theaters on March 20, 2015 (which is actually closer than it seems, and for once that thought is exciting! LOL).

Insurgent is the second installment of the Divergent series, and this sequel looks even more intense and action-packed than the first. Such a great series to be adapted for the silver screen!

Official Trailer Released for Mockingjay Part I

How perfect that the day before I go in for spine surgery (I will be taking a hiatus from the blog for a couple of weeks, as a result, just FYI!) that I get to share something fun with y'all. The new MockingJay trailer!! Wooooo!!!!

Entertainment Weekly shares more:

A full trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay—Part 1 is finally here, and it offers a look at the war-torn land Panem has become as well as a poor, brainwashed Peeta, now acting as a mouthpiece for President Snow.
In the trailer, Haymitch explains to Katniss that Peeta is the Capitol’s weapon, just like she is the rebels’. Katniss, however, uses Peeta’s plight as an ultimatum. “You will rescue Peeta at the earliest opportunity, or you will find another Mockingjay,” Katniss tells Julianne Moore’s President Alma Coin and Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Plutarch Heavensbee.
The trailer also gives fleeting glimpses at characters old and new, including Natalie Dormer’s Cressida. Effie Trinket pins a mockingjay pendant on Katniss’s armor, Gale shows off his talent with a bow and arrow, and Finnick gives Katniss a worried glance. It all ends with Katniss shooting down a plane with her arrow. We’ve always known she has great aim.

A Mash-Up for Your Morning

I spent last night trying to mediate an argument between my eight- and ten-year-old sisters about which Harry Potter movie to watch for "sister's night. It figures that this morning I look on GalleyCat and find an awesome mash-up of scenes from all eight films, which probably would've stopped that argument in a flash:

What happens when you cross Harry Potter with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World?
The comedian behind “The Unusual Suspect” YouTube channel tried to answer this question with his “Harry Potter vs. The World” mash-up trailer. The video embedded above features scenes from all eight Harry Potter films.
Thus far, the video has drawn more than 607,000 views. Two days ago, The Unusual Suspect announced on his Facebook page that filmmaker Edgar Wright (the Scott Pilgrim movie director) complimented this project. What do you think? (via io9)

For reference, io9 also conveniently shared the original Scott Pilgrim vs. the World trailer that inspired this fun mash-up:

The perfect way to start my day.

"Mockingjay: Part One" Making a Marketing Splash

As any Hunger Games fan will be, I'm super excited about the freshly released promo trailer for Mockingjay: Part One. While the video doesn't actually show any scenes from the upcoming film (in theaters Nov. 21!), it gets the excitement brewing! (As do the recently publicized District posters!)

People.com has the scoop:

Although the third film based on Suzanne Collins's novels in The Hunger Games franchise won't be released until Nov. 21, the Capitol is determined to make sure you're on its side way before then.
After recently revealing their propaganda posters, the Capitol has now released an "official Panem Address" urging its people to remain "together as one."
"Your hard work feeds us," says Panem's President Coriolanus Snow (Donald Sutherland). "And in return we feed and protect you."
Snow knows that war is coming and is prepared to do whatever it takes to win – including using Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), who was captured by The Capitol at the end of Catching Fire, as a prop in his propaganda campaign.

Book-to-Film Adaptation Trailer Insanity

Oh the insanity! This week, trailers for four much-anticipated film adaptations were released, according to GalleyCat.

Let's take a gander at what's in store for the big screen:

1. Gone Girl
Based on the bestselling thriller by Gillian Flynn
Release date: October 3, 2014

While I struggled to get through this book (I couldn't even finish it, honestly...the characters were all so damn unlikable!), I am interested in what Twentieth Century Fox and director David Fincher do with it. I'm particularly intrigued by the fact that Fincher worked with Flynn to change the ending of the book for the silver screen.

2. If I Stay
Based on the popular YA novel by Gayle Forman
Release date: August 22, 2014

Now, this one I am totally stoked for. I read If I Stay years ago and loved it to pieces. It's one of those books that resonated with me, that made me laugh and cry and beg for more. Its sequel, Where She Went, was good, too, but not nearly as engrossing and powerful as If I Stay. You can bet I'll be one of the first in line to see this baby.

3. Heaven is for Real
Based on the bestselling Christian novel by Todd Burpo
Release date: April 16, 2014

Though I haven't heard of this book before--and I'm not generally a Christian fiction reader--the cast is pretty stellar. It's also an interesting topic--near death experience--that might be worth checking out. Probably not on the big screen for me, though. Apparently, this flick is "part of Hollywood's push into marketing faith-based films to Christians" (GalleyCat), and I'm curious to see how it does in the box office.

4. X-Men: Days of Future Past
Based on the bestselling comic book series X-Men
Release Date: May 23, 2014

I'll admit it: I've never read any of the comics before. But I have seen all the movies thus far, and I've enjoyed each and every one of them. So, I'm sure I will feel similarly about this one. Especially since one of my favorite actresses, Jennifer Lawrence, has been cast on as Raven/Mystique.

Is DIVERGENT Diverging Its Audience?

As I imagine most of you know, last Friday was opening day of the much-awaited film adaptation of Catching Fire, the second installment of the Hunger Games trilogy. I, of course, was at the front of the line with my friend Kelly that evening to see it. Not only was I stoked for the movie itself, but I also couldn't wait for the previews.

Why? Because I knew they'd show the recently released trailer for Divergent, the first film based on the trilogy of the same name by Veronica Roth.

I adored this series and have been excited for the film from the moment the first actor was cast, making it a sure thing for its production. For me, the preview incited extreme chair bouncing as well as gleeful squees.

But for Kelly, who hasn't read the series (yet!), she wasn't so thrilled. From the slightly confused look on her face I could tell that she didn't quite follow what was going on. And after watching it again when I got home, I could see exactly why: the trailer was relying on the book to snag its audience. It didn't give enough about the story for those peeps who haven't read the books, thus potentially alienating a good portion of its potential audience.

This is actually something I haven't come across in a while, but it does make me wonder how the film will tackle the book as a whole. I have no doubt that I will love the movie, but how will it build the complex and powerful faction-filled world for non-readers? My fingers are crossed that it doesn't follow in the trailers footsteps, as amazing as it is for those of us who have read the books.

Have you read Divergent? What do you think about the trailer?

More YA Coming to the Silver Screen

Hollywood is really hitting the nail on the head right now with adapting some of my favorite recent YA novels. The next "Hunger Games" flick, Catching Fire, comes out in a few months, Divergent is releasing in 2014, then there's The Fault in Our Stars after that.

But sneaking into the mix now is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. While not as recent as the others I just mentioned, it's still one of my faves. How I didn't know this was in the works is mystifying. Especially since it's releasing in November 15 of this year!

Twentieth Century Fox, the film's production company, has just released the trailer, too. And I've got to say, it looks brilliant. With director Brian Percival at the helm and a cast including Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson, I'm going to definitely be hitting this one up in the theater. The young Sophie NĂ©lisse seems like she's got the role of Liesel down pat, as well. The trailer, in fact, gave me chills.

A Monday Morning Joss Whedon Distraction

Since I last posted, I have been to four different countries, moved to a new state with a totally different lifestyle, and begun a sloooow launch of my new editorial company, Double Vision Editorial. It has been overwhelming to say the least. So, let's just pretend my little disappearance never happened, shall we? :)

Instead, let's all enjoy this new trailer for the incredible Joss Whedon's upcoming adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, posted last week on GalleyCat.

The Avengers director Joss Whedon adapted William Shakespeare‘s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, as a modern-day retelling. The trailer is embedded above–what do you think?
A limited release date has been set for June 07, 2013. The film has already screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the Glasgow Film Festival. As we previously reported, Whedon shot the entire movie at his own home in 12 days. Here’s more about the film from NPR:
As I watched Much Ado About Nothing, I had the distinct thought, “I wonder whether this is the future.” Not the future, of course — I don’t believe we’re anywhere close to the end of the blockbuster, nor do I believe we’re necessarily entering a new age of Shakespeare — but a big piece of the future. Big films have gotten so big, expensive films so expensive, that all of the risk has to be drained out of them, which often leaves behind a dried-out version of whatever was originally intended.

See? Now isnt't that a fun start to your week?

LES MISERABLES Film Trailer Officially Released!

The upcoming film adaptation of the musical of Les Miserables (based on the book  by Victor Hugo, of course) has been getting a lot of criticism regarding its casting. I'll admit that the producers and casting directors have made some interesting choices, ones that perhaps I would not have made, but I am thrilled nonetheless for it to hit theaters. Since I saw the very first glimpse of it months and months ago, I had a feeling that the cast would surprise us.

And now that I've seen the first official movie trailer, I've got to say....

I have a feeling the cast will surprise us.

Stephanie Plum actually coming to the big screen--for real this time!

After a productive--and exhausting--ComicCon, I was persuaded to take the day off today. Use it as a mental health day and relax, do something fun, and reboot. I did some reading at a cafe, a little writing, and treated myself to a movie.

And what trailer did I see before the show but the ever-so-awaited ONE FOR THE MONEY!

Finally being released in January 2012, it actually looks pretty fun!

A Little "Hump Day" Humor...Jane Austen style

Yesterday, our very own guest blogger LG posted a fabulous little video on her site, Big Girl, Bigger City--"Jane Austen's Fight Club."

According to the UK's Telegraph, this spoof trailer has gone viral very quickly, with 200,000 YouTube hits in just two days.

Just what is it, you ask? The Telegraph explains:

The video shows Lizzie Bennett and other Austen characters - including Emma and the Dashwoods - setting up an underground boxing club, in manner of the cult David Fincher film Fight Club.

Lizzie plays the role of Brad Pitt's character Tyler Durden: "The first rule of Fight Club is, one never mentions Fight Club".

The society ladies engage in fights on a croquet lawn and sit bleeding during high tea.

It is not the first 'mashup' of either Jane Austen's work or Fight Club. Recently, a book called "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" imagined what would happen if events in the Regency-era novel had been interrupted by an attack of the undead.

And a Funny or Die video called Ferris Club re-set the 1980s teen movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off with Ferris as Tyler and the hapless Cameron as Ed Norton's unnamed narrator, claiming to see the real psychological truth behind the John Hughes classic. "Cameron is not a beautiful and unique snowflake", it warns.

See the article HERE

And now, without further ado..."Jane Austen's Fight Club"

Thanks for the find, LG!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

As most of you have probably heard by now, the movie trailer for Part 1 of Book 7 in the Harry Potter saga has finally been officially released (there was a bit of a leak back in Dec '09 but it didn't really make too many rounds).

Shown pre-"Eclipse," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is getting lots and lots of buzz, as is to be expected. Even "Twilight" actress Anna Kendrick tweeted about her excitement, joking that she might sneak into a theatre just to see the trailer:

"HP7 trailer = That. Was. Awesome. It would be really awkward if I bought a ticket to Eclipse just to see that on the big screen, right?"

You, my lovely readers, will have to settle for the small screen at the moment. And LG over at "Big Girl, Bigger City" posted the clip just last night on her site! So sit back, relax, and enjoy!

I think it looks pretty freakin' awesome!

What do YOU think?
